Several various literature courses contributed to fulfilling the MLO 3 requirements. I took two very interesting literature course at CSUMB, SPAN 322 and SPAN 427. SPAN 322 was very helpful for introducing me to the Latin American literary world. We studied and read the works of authors like Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. I did take this course before I knew Spanish and that was incredibly difficult, but it challenged me to make a strong effort to read and analyze literary works in Spanish. I took SPAN 427 more than a year later and was definitely surprised by how much I was able to comprehend. We read many literary works and wrote essays analyzing them. This was great practice for me and definitely helped build my vocabulary, not only linguistically, but culturally. We read books by authors from Chile, Puerto Rico, Mexico, etc. Both the Spanish literature courses that I took in Spain were very useful in my understanding of Spanish literature.
Several courses contribute to fulfill the MLO3 requirements, specially span 304, span 309 and Span 322. These courses that I took throughout the semesters helped me to develop my way of understanding the variety of literature, philosophy, politics and arts of Latin America and Spain. In the course of Span 304 Intro to Hispanic Literature I learned so much of the variety of authors and their novels, poems and short stories. I found interesting one particularly story “Lazarillo de Tormes” which its believe that fund the genre (la novela picaresca) the picaresque novel. Throughout the reading I found interesting that the story it’s a critique of how the world was divided into different social classes, also that the role that play each character represented one level of hierarchy. And the course of Span 309 and Span 322 completes the requirement throughout literary products in both ways tangible and intangible. For example in the course of Span 309 we had the opportunity to read and write about some bad situations that occurred in Latin America and in Spanish 322 we get to know the Author and their personal experience as well as their connection with their own novels, poems or stories.
